About
Dr Sarah McKenna (BA, BSc (hons), PhD, MAPS) is a clinical psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Australian National University and is a Research Fellow at the University of Sydney's Brain and Mind Centre.
Throughout her career she has worked in many different settings such as schools, community services, and private practice, giving her experience in a range of problems and with clients from all walks of life. Most of her clinical and academic work has focused on helping young people (anyone under 30) and their families to manage anxious and depressive disorders. More recently, she has conducted research on the links between mental health, sleep-wake cycles, and physical health outcomes.
Sarah uses evidence-based assessments to understand her clients mental health problems, and choose treatments that will help them to achieve the outcomes they want. She believes that care should be personalised to individuals, meaning not everyone with the same diagnosis will need the same treatment, and works with clients to understand their unique values, needs, and interests.
Sarah is trained in a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-focused CBT, and Interpersonal Psychotherapy. She is happy to work with you on finding an approach that works best for you.
